We’re kicking off the first week of Sexual Assault Awareness Month with an exciting announcement. Our friends at F&M Bank 2936 G St, Merced, CA 95340, fmbonline.com will be matching all Denim Day proceeds!
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), and Valley Crisis Center would like to invite friends and community partners to be a part of our initiative in ending sexual violence. SAAM is an important month because it allows us to focus on the high rates of sexual assault, and in doing so our agency will be raising funds for our essential programs that support survivors and promote prevention.
Denim Day is an international day of solidarity in support of survivors of sexual assault. In the 1990s, a rape conviction was overturned because the Italian Parliament was convinced that due to the tightness of her jeans, the victim must have helped her rapist remove them, implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with survivors of sexual assault all over the world.
